Protect The Heritage : The Legacy Of Selangor Red & Yellow Colours

Selangor football very synonym with the red and yellow colours. These heritage colours must be protect by all means at all cost by the Football Association of Selangor (FAS) and Selangor football fans. Now, lets take a preview on how these colours came into Selangor football history and become a legacy. All these started when Selangor Association Football League (SAFL) and Selangor Football Association (SFA) merged after ten years of negotiations. On 22 February 1936, these two football associations merged under the name of Football Association of Selangor (FAS). In the early years of merging, FAS did not has any emblem to show its identity.

Then after the Second World War, in the 1950's FAS began to has its own emblem with a Seladang (Gaurus) head together with red and yellow colours on the background. These red and yellow colours came from the Selangor flag at that time.

Selangor flag main colours of red and yellow have been adopted by FAS as the main colours of FAS and its football team. Below were the evolution of Selangor flag including the shape of His Majesty the Sultan of Selangor flag and the Selangor Crown Prince flag :-

Selangor flag after 30 January 1965 until today.

His Majesty The Sultan of Selangor flag that was used today.

The Crown Prince of Selangor flag from 1950.

The spirit of red and yellow colours in Selangor football and FAS still remain until today, together with the pride of Selangorian with their red and yellow Selangor flag. In the late 1960's, Selangor football team used a Selangor shield on their football jersey, but not the FAS emblem. Below is the picture of that Selangor shield:-

In the early of 1970s, the FAS emblem has changed to what we have seen today and became a trademark on the Selangor football jersey. The emblem can be seen below:-

Current FAS emblem.

However, in the 2000's for a short period, FAS changed its emblem to a new design that has a Red Giants wording on it. Red Giants was a title given to the Selangor football team in the early 1990's and still remain until today. The emblem can be seen below:-

Thus, there was a moment in 1980's where Selangor football team worn green colour on its football jersey based on the Selangor Crown Prince coat of arms green colour. This is because at that time, the Selangor Crown Prince was a great fan of Selangor football team. Therefore, the green colour was added on the Selangor football jersey. Below were the Selangor Crown Prince coat of arms and Selangor football jerseys that have green colours on them:-

Lastly, if you are the true die hard fan of Selangor football, you should defend and protect this heritage of Selangor football red and yellow colours that have been existed since our ancestors time as the true identity of Selangor football. Red and yellow is the colour of Red Giants.

In 1982, Topper officially sponsored the Pahang team including the jerseys. Surprisingly when the truth was found out, based on fact and evidence, in reality on that year, Pahang worn a Schwarzenbach brand jersey with the sewn Topper logo on the chest of the jersey. On the label tag, it was a Schwarzenbach jersey, but on the chest of the jersey, it was sewn with a Topper logo.
