Malayan Estates Football Cup

     The Malayan Estates Football Cup competition was inaugurated in 1955 under the sponsorship of the United Planting Association of Malaya. This competition was open to estates football teams raised by estates within Malaya. The competition starts annually in August and matches between estates were arranged at district level in order to select the State champion by the following January. Inter-State matches were then played off and the final was usually held in the middle of the year.

     The Malayan Estates Football Cup was presented by Sir Donald MacGillivray, the last High Commissioner of the Federation of Malaya before Malaya gained its independence on 31 August 1957. Later the trophy was known as MacGillivray Trophy. Originally 86 estates from all over Malaya participated in the first year of this competition and its arose into 138 estates from all over Malaya during the 1962 season.

The finalist, on the left was Revertex Limited Estate of Johor and on the right was Changkat Kinding Estate of Perak .

     The Malayan Estates Football Cup 1963 final was played between Changkat Kinding Estate from Perak and Revertex Limited Estate from Johor at the Merdeka Stadium, Kuala Lumpur on Friday evening of 23 August 1963, resulting in a win for Changkat Kinding Estate. The honourable Minister of Agriculture & Cooperatives, Tan Sri Mohd Khir Johari, presented the MacGillivray Trophy to the winning team and medallions to all players that played in the final game.

     Below is the only recorded evidence of the champion teams for this competition that can be tracked and traced. The rest is history.

1956/1959 - Kuala Ketil Estate of Kedah.
1960          - Union Estate of Johor.
1961          - Siliau Estate of Negeri Sembilan.
1962          - Sri Gading Estate of Johor.
1963          - Changkat Kinding Estate of Perak.
